Aston Martin is back in the ADAC GT Masters
- Prosport Racing to field an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 at the Hockenheimring
- Two youngsters to share the Vantage GT3
Munich. James Bond is back in the cinema, and the preferred car manufacturer of the world’s most famous secret agent is back in the German GT Championship. The Prosport Racing team, from the Eifel region of Germany, will field an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the sixth race of the season at the Hockenheimring next weekend (22nd to 24th October). In a field of roughly 30 super sports cars, the addition of Aston Martin makes for an even wider range of manufacturers. Fans can look forward to an exciting race weekend with an entertaining programme both on the track and in the open paddock. NITRO will broadcast both races live on free-to-air TV, from 16:00 on Saturday and Sunday. They can also be watched live and without registration via livestream at TVNOW.de and adac.de/motorsport.
The Aston Martin will be driven by two youngsters: Tim Heinemann (23/Fichtenberg) and Salman Owega (16/Cologne) will alternate at the wheel of the Vantage GT3. Both drivers will be making their debut in the German GT Championship, but have already gained a lot of GT experience this season in the GTC Race, which featured on the programme for the ADAC Racing Weekend. Owega won the SemiPro title, Heinemann the Pro title. Owega’s appearance introduces an element of sibling rivalry to the ADAC GT Masters. Brother Jusuf Owega currently drives an Audi R8 LMS for Phoenix Racing.
In preparation, Prosport tested the V8 racer at the Hockenheimring last Wednesday. Aston Martin last lined up in the ADAC GT Masters in 2019. After Prosport enjoyed a successful return to ADAC GT4 Germany at the Sachsenring, securing Aston Martin’s first victory in the series, the team is now ready to mix it with the GT3 cars of the German GT Championship.
Team principal Christoph Esser: “We line up with no pressure on us. After a disappointing 2019, we pledged to start afresh with GT3 cars in 2022. The Hockenheimring is now the start for us. The rain made it very hard to read anything into the test on Wednesday. As such, we do not have any expectations. The closer we finish to the front the better in this field of mega-established drivers. The guys are just going to have some fun. Depending on how things go in Hockenheim, we will decide whether or not to start at the Nürburgring.”
Tim Heinemann: “Nine years ago, as a little nipper, I sat in the grandstands in Oschersleben and watched the ADAC GT Masters. To now be racing in this series myself, against such strong opposition with all the works drivers, that is something I have great respect for. However, we want to do more than just make up the numbers. We want to show what we are capable of and raise a few eyebrows. That is going to be tough, however.”
